And did you know it’s your style of talking that makes the difference in your bird’s training?

 Parrot Talking

Parrots are fussy birds, however they aren’t stupid. They understand quickly the people in your home are their social group or in parrot terms – their flock.

Because your family isn’t fluent in the parrot’s language,  your bird will start to learn the language of its clan.

This is how they become part of the group. To the bird, learning the language of your home is how to get noticed and get you to meet its needs.

When your bird talks or mimics common sounds in your it’s the parrots way of saying I’m interested in the people around me, just as wild birds are interested in the ones for nesting, finding food, or keeping an eye out for danger.

A Good Relationship Is The Key To Get a Parrot Talking

The major requirement to get your parrot talking is a good relationship with the bird.

A frightened or abused bird will stay quiet so it doesn’t get noticed or it might scream all day because it’s lonely.

A happy, content one makes noise to let you know, “I’m here, look at me, play with me.”

A young bird makes vocalizations similar to sounds around it as an attempt to communicate with you and get attention or try to fit in.

If you praise your parrot for these attempts to communicate they will continue to learn.

The second important component toward getting a talking parrot, beyond a good relationship, is praise.

Praise can be simply turning to your bird, making eye contact, and saying, “Good bird!”

Parrots love attention from you and you should use that to your advantage, however, don’t praise unclear words.

Save the highest praise for clear, understandable stated words you want to stay in your bird’s vocabulary and keep your parrot talking.
